Making a Statement with a Christmas Swag

Christmas window swags are fun to decorate with because there are so many different types of swags, and you can use them in a number of different ways. They are also a strong Christmas decoration that makes your house look very festive with only having to use one or two of them.

So actually, swags are the ultimate Christmas decoration in terms of versatility and impact.

Outdoor Window Swags

Christmas swags are a nice alternative when you would rather not go with the blow up Santa in the front yard. The best place for a swag is on the window sill of your window or on your front door in place of a wreath.

With the windows you can attach the Christmas swag to the sill using cup hooks or by using a suction cup hook on the glass, depending on how big your swag is. For the door swag, it is hung just like you would hang a Christmas wreath.

Indoor Window Swags

Indoor Christmas swags can be place on the window sills and on the door just like the outdoor swags can. But when Christmas swags come inside they can also be placed at random on the wall and above the window. Even though you have more places to put them, what you do want to keep in mind is not overdo the swags. One Christmas swag makes a nice holiday statement and too many of them will just look silly.

For example, don’t put Christmas swag on both the inside and inside of the same window.

Choosing Your Christmas Swags

Christmas swags for your windows and doors can be found everywhere at Christmas time, so you don’t have to worry about needing to make them. What you will have to do though, is choose what type of swag you want to use because swags can come decorated with everything from ribbon and ornaments, to lights and pinecones. You will also have to decide if you want a Christmas swag that is made from real evergreen branches or fake ones.

While you know what you want and what will work best for you, here are some helpful hints:

  • For swags that will be on the outside of your home, choose ones that are simple and don’t have a lot of extra decorative items that can be ruined in the winter weather.
  • Swags made from fake evergreen branches may not have the wonderful smell, but they can be used year after year. They also don’t make a sappy mess on your window sill.

Also, never place a real evergreen swag above a heating source. The heat will dry out the swag and could end up starting a fire.
