Replacement Windows FAQs
Q: How long has Renewal by Andersen been in business?
A: Renewal by Andersen is a division of Andersen Corporation, the window company founded in 1903 by Danish immigrant Hans Andersen. Since the first Renewal store was opened in 1995 in Minnesota, Renewal by Andersen has quickly expanded to more than 100 markets around the country, becoming one of the premier replacement window companies in the nation.
Q: What is the difference between Renewal by Andersen® and Andersen® Windows?
A: Renewal by Andersen is the division of Andersen Corporation geared exclusively to the replacement market. While Andersen Corporation largely manufactures vinyl-clad wood windows for the new construction market, Renewal by Andersen focuses on the replacement needs of homeowners who want high-quality, low-maintenance windows that will last. Renewal by Andersen has pioneered the development of Fibrex® frame composite and can produce windows of virtually any size and shape.
Q: What is Fibrex®?
A: Fibrex is a patented composite made of wood fibers extruded with polymers. Because it is stronger and more energy efficient than vinyl, less conductive than metal, will not rot like wood, and produces less environmental impact during manufacture, it is the best material for window frames.
Q: What are my glass options for Renewal windows?
A: Renewal by Andersen offers three glass options. High-Performance™ Low-E4® glass is 56% more efficient in summer, 45% more energy-efficient in winter and blocks 84% of UV rays. Even more efficient is High-Performance™ Low-E4® SmartSun™ glass; it’s 70% more efficient in summer, 45% more energy-efficient in winter and blocks 95% of harmful UV rays. Tinted High-Performance™ Low-E4® Sun glass offers the best protection against solar heat to keep your home cool in warm weather.
Q: How long does it take to get my windows installed?
A: The lead time on installation can vary, depending on how busy our install teams are. During slower months like January and February, it may be three or four weeks from the date of purchase to the date of install. During our busier months like September and October, lead times may be as long as six weeks. To receive an accurate lead time for your project, please ask your Renewal by Andersen consultant.
Q: Do I have to do all of my windows at once?
A: Many of our customers do their project in phases. This is often a practical solution when there are a lot of windows, in various stages of disrepair. The fact that Renewal by Andersen is going to maintain the architectural integrity of your home allows this to be done. We want your new windows to look like original equipment, not cheap replacement windows. It is a good idea to keep the final look in mind when doing window replacement in phases. If the type of window is being changed, we generally recommend changing the front all at once, or the back all at once. This is also true if the exterior colors are being changed. In every scenario, a Renewal by Andersen Design Consultant will work with you to develop the best game plan.
Q: Can I buy the windows from you and install them myself?
A: Renewal by Andersen is the start-to-finish wood composite window replacement solution in Cincinnati. This means we take full responsibility for the consultation, sale, measurement, manufacture, installation, and service. We remove third parties to create peace of mind and higher levels of quality. This means that everything we sell is handled by our Factory Authorized Installers.
Q: Do you have different payment options?
A: At Renewal by Andersen, we understand that replacing your windows can be an expensive home improvement project. Because of this, we have multiple payment options to meet any budget. Whether it is Same as Cash, 0% interest, or a low interest loan, we can meet your monthly number. For more information, please click on our “Financing Options” tab.
Q: Can I keep my interior trim or my window sills?
A: Renewal by Andersen has a number of installation techniques, as well as many different products to best serve our Cincinnati customers. The type and style of windows will determine which method of installation is best suited for your replacement project. Our Design Consultants and Project Managers will discuss the best solutions with you. In most cases, the interior trim, stool, and apron can be kept in place.
Q: Can you make custom-sized patio doors?
A: When necessary, we can make special sized patio doors. French doors (both in-swing and out-swing), and three styles of gliding doors are available. There are a number of hardware and grille options from which to choose, along with all of the standard Andersen patio door colors. If you have an unusual combination of operational doors and fixed panels, we can often replicate that look through large picture windows or sidelights. To speak with one of our Design Consultants, please give us a call at (513) 283-8996 .
Q: Can you add a window to a wall, or do you only replace current windows?
A: We do have the ability to modify openings to accommodate a new window or door. We have increased the size of window openings, added bay and bow windows, and even put new windows into homes. The complexity of the project (for example, moving wires, pipes, or ducts) will determine whether we do the project all in house, or if we bring in an outside specialist to assist.
Q: Can I do different colors on the inside and outside, or do my windows have to be one color?
A: With wood composite windows, the color pallet is virtually endless. You can choose one of nine exterior colors, and one of four interior colors. They do not have to be the same. For a stained wood interior, we have three species of wood. Each wood interior can be stained to match your existing trim color. If necessary, we can also paint the interiors to match a particular color in your home.
