Questions to Ask When Designing an Ohio Window

The structure of each home is different, which is why a one-size-fits-all approach won’t work for window replacement. Unfortunately, the majority of window manufacturers build windows according to a uniform set of dimensions, but not Renewal by Andersen®. We customize our windows according to your exact needs and specifications.

To find out more about our customers’ needs and preferences, we offer free in-home consultations. During these meetings, our design consultants will work with you to design the perfect window to fit your home and meet your style preferences. Don’t know what questions to ask? No worries; To help you get started, our window installation contractors suggest asking the questions below.

What Window Material Do You Recommend?

Ask the design consultant about which material is best suited to your local climate. The Midwest is known for extreme weather fluctuations, so your replacement windows should be able to handle both hot and cold temperatures.

How Energy-Efficient Are These Windows?

According to the Department of Energy, heat that leaks through your windows can account for as much as a third of your heating and cooling costs. Considering the weather extremes in the Midwest, an energy-efficient window would make a good investment. Ask the consultant about how you can make your new windows more energy-efficient.

How Do You Open These Windows?

Once you’ve settled on a material, ask the consultant how the windows are operated. Each window type has a specific opening mechanism. Ideally, your new windows should be easy to open.

In addition, you need to consider your needs, which we recommend you make a note of before the consultation. For example, many homeowners don’t have the time to do chores like window cleaning. If you want an easy-to-clean window, we recommend installing double hung windows, which can be cleaned without needing to go outside.

You also need to consider the security of your windows. Some types of windows can be opened by unwanted guests from the outside. For a more secure home, we recommend asking the consultant about our casement windows. Opened via a crank, casement windows can’t be opened from the outside. And when you close the windows, the sash is pressed tightly into the frame, providing added reinforcement. If you want additional peace of mind, you can also add a secondary lock.

Which Window Style Best Suits Your Home’s Design?

Your windows will affect your curb appeal, so they need to complement your exterior. The window’s design, color and finish have to complement other parts of your exterior.

Of course, your interior is also important. Natural lighting can make a room feel more spacious and make the colors look more vivid. If you want to maximize natural lighting in your home, we recommend installing bay windows. Providing panoramic views that let natural light enter from different directions, bay windows will lend your home an elegant aesthetic and added square footage that can increase your property’s resale value.

Ask About the Installation Process

As with any home improvement project, you should ask about the installation process. Having an idea about the process will help you make the right preparations for the project.

The Renewal by Andersen Advantage

Many manufacturers let third-party distributors and contractors install their windows. But not Renewal by Andersen. We adopted a one-company approach to ensure strict quality control. From the drafting of the window design right down to the installation in your home, our company oversees the entire process.
