Tips on Designing the Ideal Ohio Window

Every home is unique, which is why a one-size-fits-all approach to window replacement doesn’t work. Unfortunately, the majority of manufacturers construct windows according to a generic set of dimensions, but not Renewal by Andersen®. We customize our windows according to your exact needs and specifications.

To find out more about our customers’ needs and preferences, we offer free in-home consultations. During these meetings, our design consultants will listen closely to your wants and needs and work with you to design the perfect window.

Don’t know what to ask? No worries. To help you get started, our window installation contractors suggest asking the questions below.

What Window Material Do You Recommend?

Ask the design consultant about which material is best suited to your local climate. The Midwest is known for its extreme weather fluctuations, so your replacement windows should be able to handle both scorchingly hot and bitterly cold temperatures.

How Energy-Efficient Are These Windows?

According to the Department of Energy, heat transfer through inefficient windows can account for as much as a third of your heating and cooling costs. Considering the weather extremes in the Midwest, an energy-efficient window is a sound investment.

How Do You Open These Windows?

Once you’ve settled on a material, ask the consultant how the windows are operated. Each window type has a specific opening mechanism. Ideally, your new windows should be easy to open. If you’re installing a window in a hard-to-reach area like above a sink, consider casement windows, which open via a crank.

How Much Maintenance Will the Window Need?

Many homeowners don’t have a lot of time to commit to window maintenance and cleaning. If you want an easy-to-clean window, we recommend installing double-hung windows. With most windows, you have to climb onto a ladder or go outside to wash the exterior window panes. Double-hung windows have latches on their sashes that, when released, allow you to clean the panes without having to go outside, making the process quick and easy

How Secure Is the Window?

Ease of operation is important, but so is security. For a more secure home, we recommend asking the consultant about our casement windows. Because they’re opened via a crank from inside your home, casement windows can’t be opened from the outside. When you close a casement window, the sash is pressed tightly into the frame, providing added reinforcement. If you want additional peace of mind, you can also add a secondary lock.

Which Window Style Best Complements Your Home’s Design?

Your windows affect your home’s curb appeal, so they need to complement your exterior. The window’s design, color, and finish have to look good beside the other parts of your exterior.

Your interior matters too, of course. Natural lighting can make a room feel more spacious and the colors look more vivid. If you want to maximize natural lighting in your home, we recommend installing bay windows, which allow for panoramic views that let natural light enter from different directions. Plus, these windows’ elegant aesthetic and added square footage can increase your property’s resale value.

What’s Involved in the Installation Process?

As with any home improvement project, you should ask about the installation process. Knowing what to expect can help you prepare your home for the project.

The Renewal by Andersen Advantage

Normally, manufacturers let third-party distributors and contractors install their windows. Renewal by Andersen is different; we’ve adopted a one-company approach to ensure strict quality control. From the drafting of the window design right down to its installation, our company oversees the entire process.
